Summary
Dune ’s Dave Bautista talk over a deleted setting from the first film . Bautista work Glossu Rabban in the 2021 adaptation ofDunedirected by Denis Villeneuve , and reprise the role for theupcoming sequelDune : Part Two . As the nephew of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen ( Stellan Skarsgård),Rabban is a roughshod and brutal individualput in bang on the planet Arrakis , ignorant that he is a pawn in the Baron ’s larger schema . Rabban also shares story with Gurney Halleck ( Josh Brolin ) , who survived the massacre of House Atreides and will also render inDune : Part Two .
It ’s just , in good order now I ’m thinking , “ God , is he [ Villeneuve ] gon na be demented at me if I say ? ” But no , it ’s nothing major . It ’s not giving away anything , but I had a prospect in the first film with Dave Dastmalchian where I was just intimidating his character , and it was very elusive , but I need that for selfish reason because I love Dave so much . I guess it just did n’t accommodate in or there was n’t way or tempo progeny . Those decisions are way over my head . But yeah , I was disappointed that I did n’t make the cut .
Why It Was Right To Delete This Scene From Dune: Part One
In theDunebook by Frank Herbert , Piter is shown to be a deep conniving , sadistic , and influential individualwith more of a voice in the Harkonnen court . The Baron expresses his displeasure to Piter at him being more than an obedient Mentat , and the Baron even realizes that he may need to kill Piter , though this ultimately proves unneeded as Piter dies when Duke Leto Atreides ( Oscar Isaac ) takes his own life and attempts to assassinate the Baron as well with toxicant .

While Dastmalchian certainly look and represent the part of the unsettling Piter , the 2021 film mostly reduces the Mentat to a silent and obedient assistant to the Baron . Piter does n’t even get to vote out Dr. Wellington Yueh ( Chang Chen ) as he does in the novel , with the Baron kill Yueh rather . The deleted scene that Bautista draw in which Rabban restrain Piter would only havereinforced the inaccurate depiction of Piter as a meek and subservient Mentat .
Rabban ’s scenery inDunesufficiently show his forcible prowess and domineering , cruel personality , meaningthis view would n’t have further developed Rabban in any meaningful way of life . Piter is now dead , butDune : Part Twowill stay on Rabban ’s history as the Harkonnens are threatened by Paul Atreides ( Timothée Chalamet ) and the Fremen . The version has the opportunity to raise Rabban ’s news report through an heroic rematch with Gurney , a variety that would elevate Rabban ’s fate in the source fabric .
