Suncoast Cast & Director Talk About The Movie At Sundance Film Festival
Laura Chinn
Screen fustian : This story comes from a very personal place . What was the drift to get it down on theme and then up on the cover ?
Laura Chinn : You know , I think it was such a coincidental thing that my life aligned with such a big media moment and such a big excited , politicized bit in the public debate about life and last . The fact that my life intersected with it when I was a teenager was such an odd conjunction that I love I always want to write about it .
It take me a foresighted time to compute out exactly why it was meaningful to peach about it , and it look at a while to figure out what I wanted to say about grief . What I want to say about what it is to be someone who ’s coming of age and dealing with such .

Nico is an up - and - issue forth star but she ’s still quite young . How did you , as well as Woody and Laura , help guide her on circle ?
Laura Chinn : It was somewhat amazing because when she really did n’t postulate counseling . At 17 year old , she sat down on Woody ’s first day and just go toe to toe with him . As an thespian , she ’s brilliant . Everybody always speak about , " I ca n’t believe that she can just keep up with these actors who have been doing it for so long and are so talented , obviously , and have such large bodies of work . "
But Nico has a natural talent . She is a God - given Earth backer , her talent is vast , and she has ability that one could only ever dream up . I think that she had a peck of reverence for these actors , and she was going into it like , " I ’m turn with these worker who are really the height of their plot . " But everybody was so warm and collaborative , and Laura [ Linney ] was able to steer her in a way that feel so nurture and also empowering , you know . It really was beautiful to watch .

Ariel Martin
Screen Rant : What can you narrate me about your role ?
Ariel Martin : I played Megan , and she is one of the raw friend that Doris do . What ’s interesting about Megan is that she ’s the only one that ’s a little bit snarky and intend to Doris . But what Laura Chinn did so well is that she did n’t make her a unimaginative mean girl ; she add together layers and dimensions and made it come from a different place , and added middle to her . Which , as an actor , I really appreciate .
Suncoastis a very personal story for Laura Chinn , but what mouth to you most about it ?

Ariel Martin : That ’s a great dubiousness . If I want to be very vulnerable and honest , what Doris is going through in the film with the balance between helping her brother and wanting to exist her living , I went through that with my grandparents also . They also desire me to go and pursue my dreaming of represent in Los Angeles . That balance of dealing with both of those worlds is something that , as I was shoot , I was care with in my tangible life . It bring me a great deal of comfort just to be involved in a celluloid like this , and I feel more sceptered to have conversation about that with my family .
Last but not least , I fuck theZOMBIESmovies , and I am a Wynter stan . Are you back for zombi 4 , and what can fans await from it ?
Ariel Martin : Oh , my God ! I ca n’t say too much . I do n’t want to say too much . But just be intimate we have an animated series , and she will be there in season 2 .

Cree Kawa
Screen Rant : Suncoastis a very personal story for Laura Chinn , but what spoke to you most about it ?
Cree Kawa : I would say just the writing in the playscript in cosmopolitan , Laura as a person , and her genuineness when she was talking about her life and experience . It was just her willingness to be so vulnerable that was a tie , and I appreciate her .
You have a mickle of scene with Laura Linney and Nico Parker , but you do n’t get to be fully witting in most of them . How did you solicit into that kin active offscreen ?

Cree Kawa : I would say just process it like a normal family family relationship . Going into everything live that we ’re act a menage helps breaks the chicken feed a little bit and gets us comfy . We get to jest around and have fun , but also remember that it is such a tragical story . We have those skillful moments of where we remember that it ’s all right .
Ella Anderson
Screen Rant : What can you tell me about your character ?
Ella Anderson : I bet Brittany , who I would describe as an alpha female person with a subdued , feminist , welcoming core to her . She ’s gravid ; she ’s one of the members of the friend mathematical group that very happily welcomes Doris in , despite her not being necessarily the same as the residue of them . She just makes some questionable decisions . [ Laughs ]
Ella Anderson : Gosh , I think I cry the most at the very end , of course . Also , there was one scene that – when I read it in the hand even – made me cry . The shot where Doris is look on that video of her and her sidekick when they were younger spoke to me so deeply . But I just think the honesty that Laura choose to compose the playscript with really showed through , and it made it very emotionally impactful for me and for many other masses as well .
You spent several years onHenryDanger . How do you think that ’s shaped your approach to act ?
Ella Anderson : I ’ve been so much to work on so many undertaking , film and telly . We did so many episodes [ of Henry Danger ] , and everyone that I worked with on that made it so that I could thrive and be severely - work on , and to be really disciplined . I think that was naturally a lineament that I possessed , and they just let it unfold , which was great because I ’ve been able-bodied to take it onto other project that I ’ve done .
Amarr
Amarr : Honestly , I do n’t want to spoil it too much for the hoi polloi who have n’t seen it , but I hope you will see it to the very final stage . I talked to a circle of my family extremity about how she ’s been through so much loss and so much brokenheartedness , and experience so much pain . But when you get around it , she ’s such a beautiful person , inside and out . It ’s so cool to be able to see that she ’s been through all that hooey and is still a great person . You still treat us like normal the great unwashed ; it ’s amazing .
The film share a great deal with friendly relationship . What was it like germinate that bond ?
Amarr : Yeah , we did a set of unlike example with each other and practice trust . I ’m a guy , so it was a trivial tricky ; if the girls want to babble out or do something , I ’d just stand in the corner and listen to music or do my own thing . But whenever we would speak , it was like a miniskirt - family for a couple of months , which was great .
Can you about work with Nico Parker ?
Amarr : One thing about Nico ? She ’s so gifted . I sense like she ’s a wad more talented than she gives herself credit for , truly . I ’ve work with a fortune of histrion , but she has something about her that just clicks . Honestly , it was a blessing to be able to be on screen with her .
Este Haim & Christopher Stracey
How do you equilibrize the lightsome moments of the film with the heavier tone ?
Este Haim : I call back it ’s our job not to recount people how to feel does n’t , and this was no different . It ’s a really delicate equilibrium because there are moments of levity , but it is a very tragical and at fourth dimension intense tarradiddle . We were definitely cognizant of that and try out to ensure that we were just convey as much emotion without telling citizenry what emotion to feel , if that make sense .
What influences did you draw from ? Because the sexual conquest feels very contemporary .
Christopher Stracey : It was a quite a little to do with the form of indie music that was coming out around the time when it was congeal , around 2007 . We heard the songs that they were using in the film , like the pop music stuff , and then we were like , " What if we were the indie lot of the clip ? What would we play ? " Then we work that hooey into the sexual conquest .
How different is composing for a movie than compose your own music ?
Este Haim : It ’s definitely different .
Christopher Stracey : The biggest part is not lead too much . Because when you make a record , it has to grab people now . But when you score a cinema , it ’s arrive to be blue-blooded .
