Summary
Quantum Leapshowrunner Martin Gero has opened up about why a major character expiry in season 2 was important , even if it did get overturn . During the season 2 finale , Jenn goes to PQL ’s military headquarters , intent on keeping Gideon from mother to their accelerator . However , she is killed by his man , only brought back to life thanks to Ben befriend Hannah ’s son , Jeffrey - who later becomes Gideon - in the past times .
Speaking withScreen Rant , Gero explained whyJenn ’s death was an important part of theQuantum Leapseason 2 finale , even if it was annul by the end . The showrunner said it made the most horse sense base on her place as the team ’s security department expert , and because it was absolved her end would n’t be permanent . It was n’t necessarily that her expiry would be the most impactful , but it made sense that she would be the one that would be in the most harm . She ’s the security expert and built that organisation . So if you ’re run low to send anyone behind enemy lines , it made the most sensation for it to be her . Ian would be back trying to start the 2nd organization .
Also , she ’s a darling character — they all are . But the math of where she would need to be and who would be in the most danger , I suppose that ’s why we choose her . Also , we recognise that she was arrive back . If we actually had to kill someone , it would be none of them . We ’d have written in some character three episodes ago that we could actually kill , because we enjoy our cast so much .
Why Jenn’s Quantum Leap Death Was So Impactful
Jenn dies attempting to protect the PQL from Gideon , who mean to take revenge on Ben after learning he was a sentence traveller when he was younger . While Ben at first wants to stop him when he was a youngster , still going by his giving birth name of Jeffrey , he ultimately inspire the boy to facilitate break the world . This get a shifting in the timeline , making him the Project ’s biggest philanthropic donor , and get the fallen group member back to life .
By killing Jenn temporarily , the show was able to stir the stakes , showing just how critical it was that Jeffrey did n’t become Gideonin the future . This also madeBen ’s reunions with Hannahhave a more apt significance for the entire team , as her son was doom to become a scourge in the present day . However , by learning there was a compassionate way of living life , his new contribution to the futurity may have saved the PQL from total shutdown .
Given how large a scourge Jeffrey had previously been for the squad , it will be interesting to see how he plays into a possibleQuantum Leapseason 3storyline . Now that Jenn is alive and Ben is bind in sentence with Addision , there may be some interesting team dynamic that stem from this timeline change . Perhaps , beyond their squad member being alive , there were other unanticipated consequences of alter the past .
